Woman, child injured in rollover caused by mechanical defect

JEFFERSON CO., MO – A woman and a child were injured this morning when a mechanical defect caused their SUV to run off the road and overturn.

According to the official report filed by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Sonya Schweppe was driving northbound on MO-21 when her 2005 Toyota Highlander experienced and unspecified mechanical failure at mile marker 188. The vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and rolled over.

Schweppe, 64, experienced moderate injuries due to the crash. An 8-year-old girl who was a passenger was also hurt, although her injuries were deemed mild.

They were both taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital South.
