Woman, 75, dead in Washington County crash

RICHWOODS TOWNSHIP, MO (WASHINGTON COUNTY) – One woman is dead following a car accident on State Highway 47 in Washington County yesterday afternoon.

A fatality report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol states that the incident happened at the intersection of MO-47 and Carp Lake Road at 1:41 p.m.

The victim is De Soto woman Barbara M. Shaffer, 75.

Shaffer was driving a 2002 Mercedes-Benz ML320 northbound on MO-47 when Joshua A. Parker, 24, of Pacific, lost control of his vehicle. The 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer he was driving crashed into the Mercedes-Benz.

The Chevrolet overturned in the crash and hit a fence. Parker was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Shaffer’s vehicle ran off the road and struck a fence. She was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead at about 3:45 p.m.

According to the report, Shaffer was wearing her seatbelt during the accident.

Both vehicles were totaled during the crash.
