Two children, two adults hurt after being rear-ended by truck in St. Charles Co.

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO – Two children and two adults were hurt in a crash Saturday morning in St. Charles County after a semi-truck rear-ended their vehicle, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The crash happened at 9:45 a.m. in the westbound lanes of Interstate 64, near Prospect Road, as a 2016 Ford Escape, driven by 65-year-old St. Peters woman Deborah L. Leahy, slowed down to yield for traffic.

A 2020 GMC Terrain, operated by St. Peters man Codi C. Shemon, 35, also slowed down behind the Escape. A 2020 Volvo semi-truck was tailgating closely behind the GMC and reportedly did not make an attempt to slow down.

The semi-truck, operated by 53-year-old David A. Dewey, of Arlington, Washington, then collided with the back of the GMC, pushing it into the back of the Escape.

Shemon and a passenger, 33-year-old Elizabeth A. Blase, of St. Charles, were taken to the hospital in Lake St. Louis for the treatment of minor injuries.

Two additional passengers of the GMC, a 7-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy, both of St. Peters, were taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.

Dewey and Leahy are not reported as injured.

The GMC was totaled in the crash, which also extensively damaged the Escape.
