Springfield – Pedestrian Killed In Highway Accident

A pedestrian incident was reported in Springfield Saturday evening.

The accident occurred on the northbound side of US Highway 65 just north of the Chestnut Expressway junction. At around 9:30 p.m., a tow truck driven by 29-year-old Alan Goodkin of Springfield was attempting to load a disabled vehicle on the roadway when it backed into 63-year-old Matthew Canovi of Brighton who was standing on the shoulder. Canovi was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials are actively investigating the incident.
