One person killed, one person injured in Boone County crash

COLUMBIA, MO – A 43-year-old woman was killed and a 34-year-old man was injured in a head-on collision on West Route K on Friday night.

Joseph D. Richards, of Columbia, was traveling west on West Route K in a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol. He encountered a line of stopped traffic and failed to stop. Richards swerved into oncoming traffic and struck an eastbound 2006 Pontiac G6, driven by Tina M. Rains. The accident happened just east of Old Plank Road around 5:03 p.m.

Rains, of Columbia, was pronounced dead at the crash scene at 5:20 p.m.

Richards sustained minor injuries, but refused treatment.

Neither driver was wearing a seat belt.

Both vehicles were totaled.
