Head-on collision south of St. Louis leaves two men in hospital

IMPERIAL, MO (JEFFERSON COUNTY) – Two men were involved on Friday in a head-on collision south of St. Louis that left both of them in the hospital, according to The Leader.

The incident occurred at 6:45 a.m. Friday on Black Oak Drive at Old Lemay Ferry Road in Imperial, which is about twenty miles south of St. Louis.

One of the victims was Elijah J. Lewis, 18, of Imperial. He was driving a 2018 Kia Optima when he crossed the center line and struck a pickup truck, a 2018 GMC Sierra, on the opposite side of the road in a head-on collision. He was not wearing his seatbelt at the time.

Jason J. Balsman, 45, also of Imperial, was the other driver. He was wearing a seatbelt.

Both men were taken to the hospital.

Lewis suffered serious injuries, while Balsman suffered minor ones.
