Four people sustain injuries in crash on westbound I-270

FLORISSANT, MO – Four people sustained injuries in a three-vehicle crash on westbound I-270 west of the Florissant Avenue exit (29) on Tuesday morning.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol, 58-year-old Stephen Johnson, of Indianapolis, IN, was traveling west on I-270 in a semi when he became distracted and rear-ended a 2018 RAM Promaster City. The impact caused the RAM to rear-end a 2012 Chevrolet Traverse. Both the semi and the RAM traveled off the right side of the highway. The Chevrolet traveled off the left side of the road and hit a concrete barrier.

Johnson, the driver of the Chevrolet, and a passenger in the Chevrolet all sustained minor injuries. Police identified the Chevrolet driver as 23-year-old Alexis Brooks, of Florissant, and the passenger as 46-year-old Jacquelyn Johnson, of Florissant. The driver of the RAM, 71-year-old Gary R. Gaydos, sustained serious injuries in the crash. They were all transported to SSM Health DePaul Hospital.

Police report everyone was wearing a seat belt.

The RAM was totaled, the semi sustained extensive damages, and the Chevrolet sustained moderate damages.
