MERAMEC TWP, MO – Firefighters with the Eureka and Fenton Fire Departments pulled two men and a dog from the wreckage of a truck crash on I-44 southwest of St. Louis earlier this month.
Leader Publications reports that firefighters were dispatched to I-44 westbound past Antire Road at 6:05 a.m. on January 15. They arrived about ten minutes later to find a semi truck lying on its side and Jaiden Jackson, a 22-year-old passenger, sitting on top of the trailer.
Authorities believe that Michael L. Brenner, 26, had been driving too fast for that morning’s snowy conditions, which caused him to lose control of his 2020 Freightliner Cascadia. The Freightliner subsequently ran off the side of the road and overturned.
Brenner had to be cut out of the cab, and was then taken to Mercy South for treatment of moderate injuries. Jackson was also transported there, albeit with minor injuries. Both men were discharged later that day
The Missouri State Highway Patrol also rescued a dog from the truck, and kept it in a patrol vehicle until animal control arrived.
All westbound lanes in the area were shut down for more than an hour as a result of the crash, reopening by 10:50 a.m.
