MADISON COUNTY, IL – Unsteady driving conditions caused by rain led to a three-vehicle crash on I-255 east of St. Louis that left one person dead and two hospitalized, RiverBender.com reports.
According to a preliminary investigation by officials, the driver of a northbound 2010 Honda lost control of the vehicle near mile marker 26.6, crossed the center median, and hit a southbound 2018 Honda Civic head-on. The 2010 Honda continued barreling through the lanes until it was hit by an oncoming semi truck.
The driver of the 2010 Honda was pronounced dead while the other drivers—Missourians Todd Gerdes, 45, and Edon Mehmeti, 25—were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Officials closed all lanes of I-255 in the area for 30 minutes while they cleared the accident.
This accident is still under investigation.
