Child killed while attempting to cross I-270

ST. LOUIS, MO – An 11-year-old child from St. Louis was struck and killed while attempting to cross I-270 Monday evening.

According to the official crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident was reported just before 6:30 p.m. in the southbound lanes of I-270 north of Olive Boulevard.

The report states that the 11-year-old boy was walking across the southbound lanes when he was struck by the 24-year-old driver of a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

An investigation is likely underway into why the child was walking in the street.
