Update: Officer dies following Wednesday crash

BELLEFONTAINE NEIGHBORS, MO – According to KMOV, one of the officers involved in a crash near Crete Dr and Chambers Rd on Wednesday has died.

Detectives attempted to pull over a vehicle driven by Alfred Mayes, 33, when he sped off. Detectives called Officer Antonio Valentine and another detective to the scene. Mayes’s vehicle then collided with Valentine’s cruiser as Valentine was approaching the suspect at Crete Dr and Chambers Rd around 2:30 p.m.

First responders attempted life-saving procedures on Valentine and then transported him to an area hospital, where he later died. Mayes was also taken to an area hospital where he died. The other officer involved was treated at the hospital and then released.
