O’FALLON, MO – Two children, ages 6 and 9, sustained serious injuries in a five-vehicle, chain-reaction crash on Highway 79 North on Monday morning.
According to Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2011 Toyota Sienna, 2019 Mazda CX5, and 2011 Toyota Camry were all stopped on southbound Highway 79 around 7:21 a.m. A 2001 Lexus RX300 rear-ended the Sienna causing a chain reaction among the three stopped vehicles, and each vehicle rear-ended the one in front of it.
Two children in the Sienna were transported to St. Louis Children’s Hospital. No one else was injured in the crash.
The Lexus, which caused the chain-reaction crash, was driven by 18-year-old Grant Hytrek. It was totaled in the crash. The Sienna, driven by 39-year-old Bethany Puzzella, was also totaled in the crash.
27-year-old Kaitlin Erwin was driving the Mazda, which sustained moderate damages in the crash. The Camry sustained minor damages in the crash and was driven by 33-year-old Jessica Sahagun.
