7-year-old and 13-year-old hurt in Friday-night crash in Union

UNION TOWNSHIP, MO (FRANKLIN COUNTY) – Two children were injured in a collision in Franklin County on Friday evening, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The accident happened south of Washington and northwest of Union Township, on Highway A and Highway YY, at 5:40 p.m., when the driver of a 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck attempted to make a left turn onto Highway A.

The driver, 31-year-old Hermann resident Tiffany M. Heidemann, reportedly failed to yield the right of way to 32-year-old Union man Jeremy A. Shelton, who was driving a 2017 Hyundai Elantra. The Avalanche then collided with the front of the Elantra.

A 7-year-old girl from Union who was a passenger in the Elantra was taken to the hospital in Washington with minor injuries.

Another child, a 13-year-old girl from Hermann who was riding in the Avalanche, was taken to the same hospital, also with minor injuries.

Both girls were properly secured in the vehicle with a seatbelt or safety device.

The drivers were not reported as injured.
