44-year-old driver sustains moderate injuries after rear-ending a van

BRIDGETON, MO – A 44-year-old driver sustained moderate injuries after rear-ending a van on Discovery Bridge on Wednesday morning.

John P. Ayers, 44, was traveling eastbound on Missouri 370 in a 2006 Nissan Frontier when he struck a 2019 Chevrolet Express van around 8:56 a.m., police report.

The Chevrolet was stationary in the left-hand shoulder of the bridge and partially blocking the left lane. Ayers moved into the left lane and struck the van.

St. Charles City Ambulance transported Ayers to SSM Health DePaul Hospital. He was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash.

John LaPlante, 33, who was driving the van, was not injured in the crash. It is unclear why he was stopped on the side of the road.
