Your Mental Health Matters: Resources for Coping, Grief and Loss

Posted on Thursday, September 8th, 2022

men's support groupWe often say that together we’re making a difference, and we are. We’re standing up to corporations and holding them accountable for causing harm, and we’re changing the way they do business. But we also recognize that every one of our clients has had to deal with pain, suffering, loss, and grief.

Our OnderLaw team will do all we can to help you in your legal fight, but there are battles you’re likely going through that are beyond our scope. We can be supportive, however, and we want you to know that not only do we understand; we care.

Below are some resources that may help. Beyond these, there are likely resources within your local community through medical organizations, counseling centers, religious centers, and more that can provide you with the resources and listening ears that you may need.

Recognizing you need help is not a weakness. It’s a strength.

Here are a few places to turn (in no particular order):

GriefShare: This group was recommended by an OnderLaw client who says it helped him through his loss. If you’ve lost someone you love, GriefShare can help. Find one of thousands of local groups in the U.S. and Canada, and sign up for daily email encouragement.

American Cancer Society Cancer Survivors Network: The American Cancer Society’s Cancer Survivors Network (CSN) provides resources for those going through cancer treatment and beyond, as well as for caregivers and those who have lost loved ones.

Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research: This dynamic foundation is breaking barriers when it comes to Parkinson’s treatment and research. Their Buddy Network is also a great resource for conversations, support, and news about the latest developments.

Caring.com: This caregivers’ network is a tremendous support for anyone caring for someone with cancer, Parkinson’s disease, serious injury, or any other challenge. Caregivers need support, too, and this organization can help.

Patients Like Me: This organization connects people and resources for just about every medical diagnosis out there, including cancers, Parkinson’s disease, mental health issues, autism, and a myriad of other challenges. You don’t have to go it alone.

HealthUnlocked: This robust social community is all about sharing information. Membership is free, and you can find other people going through the same thing you are. It’s also fantastic for keeping up with the latest research.

Parkinson’s Foundation: This foundation provides online classes, helpful articles, great books and more. Check them out if you have or are caring for someone with Parkinson’s disease.

National Ovarian Cancer Coalition: This comprehensive organization provides support from the moment of diagnosis onward for women facing ovarian cancer and their loved ones. Check them out!

Combat Boots & Cancer: Current and former military members face a maze of processes and resources when they’re diagnosed with cancer. This organization does the footwork for you and connects you to the resources you need.

Firefighter Cancer Support Network: Created specifically to help firefighters and their families, this support network provides badge-to-badge help and informational resources.
