JENNINGS, MO – A man has been charged with several crimes including involuntary manslaughter after he collided with a mother and her children and then fled the scene on Saturday.

The fatal incident took place in the 5500 block of Jennings Station Road at around 10 p.m. on May 29. A southbound vehicle whipped around traffic and struck a woman and her two-year-old son as they were crossing the street. The boy died at the scene, while the woman was rushed to a nearby hospital with a broken leg. The driver fled the scene without stopping.

Initial reporting suggested that the woman had been carrying a baby girl in a child’s seat at the time of the collision, but KDSK’s reporting makes no mention of a second child. Our initial coverage of the story suggested that the girl was unhurt.

KDSK reports that Raymond Bryant Jr. was arrested after police identified his red Pontiac G8 as the vehicle involved in the collision. He has been charged with first-degree involuntary manslaughter, second-degree assault, leaving the scene of an accident and two counts of armed criminal action. A cash-only bond has been set at $500,000.
