PIKE COUNTY, MO – Two 16-year-olds were seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash on northbound Highway 161 just after midnight on Sunday.

A 16-year-old driver was traveling north on Highway 161 in a 1999 Mazda B Series when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol. The driver over-corrected causing the vehicle to travel back across the highway and off the left side of the road. MSHP reports the vehicle overturned at 24140 Highway 161 around 12:10 a.m.

Both the driver and teenage passenger were airlifted to different hospitals for serious injuries. Neither the driver nor passenger were wearing a seat belt.

The Mazda was totaled.
