Two people sustained moderate-injuries in Jefferson County head-on collision

FESTUS, MO – Two people were injured in a head-on collision at the intersection of US-67 and Sunnyside Road on Monday evening.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am, driven by 32-year-old Amanda Pitts, attempted to turn left onto Sunnyside Road from southbound US-67 in front of a 2012 Volkswagen Passat, driven by 48-year-old Lisa Brown.

Brown applied the brakes and swerved to miss the Pontiac, but they two vehicles still collided head-on. The impact caused both vehicles to skid, the Pontiac to rotate around, and the back-ends of the vehicles to strike each other.

Police report the Pontiac skidded off the right side of the road and struck a fence. Meanwhile, the Volkswagen came to a stop on northbound US-67 and blocked one lane of traffic.

Both drivers sustained moderate injuries. Brown was transported to Mercy Hospital St. Louis. Pitts was transported to Mercy Hospital South.
