JOACHIM TOWNSHIP, MO (JEFFERSON COUNTY) – Two men were severely injured Monday night in a single-vehicle ATV accident in Jefferson County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The crash happened at 8 p.m. on Rice Road, near Marble Springs Road, when a 2016 Polaris RZRXT slipped on gravel on the roadway.

The ATV, operated by 27-year-old Travis J. Gemmel, ran off the side of the road and down an embankment before colliding with a tree and a stone. The ATV rolled over an unspecified number of times, and the top of the vehicle collided with a tree.

Gemmel was taken to a hospital in St. Louis by ground ambulance for the treatment of serious injuries. A passenger, 24-year-old Fenton man Kyle P. Leckrone, was airlifted to a different hospital in St. Louis, also with serious injuries.

Neither of the men was wearing a safety device when the crash happened.
