Two 19-year-olds injured after car crashes off side of I-70 ramp into two trucks

ST. LOUIS, MO – Two 19-year-olds were injured early this morning in a crash on I-70 that caused the engine block to separate from the rest of their vehicle, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The collision happened on the ramp between I-70 westbound to Salisbury Road at 12:07 a.m., when the driver of a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta, 19-year-old St. Louis resident Coby J. Ford, ran off the right side of the ramp. The vehicle became airborne, then crashed into a light pole. When the Jetta landed, it then crashed into a 2009 Kenworth T8 truck.

The force of the crash caused the engine block to separate from the Jetta, then crashed into the trailer of a 2014 Kenworth T8 truck. The trailer of the 2014 Kenworth then crashed into the left side of the other Kenworth truck.

Ford was taken to the hospital for the treatment of minor injuries.

His passenger, 19-year-old St. Louis resident Joshua M. Curry, suffered severe injuries and was also taken to the hospital.

No details were available regarding the identities and conditions of the truck drivers.
