Three-vehicle crash injures multiple people, including pedestrian

ST. LOUIS, MO – A three-vehicle crash resulted in multiple injuries on northbound I-55 south of Union Road on Monday evening.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol, a a 2008 Scion TC had become stalled in the rightmost lane of northbound I-55 shortly before 10:40 p.m. A 2016 Nissan Altima was stopped behind it, and 58-year-old Thomas Flowers was standing in between the two vehicles. It seems likely that he was assisting with the stalled Scion.

The crash occurred when a 2010 Nissan Rogue, driven by 22-year-old Rachelle Abt, struck the Altima from behind, pushing it into the back of the Scion and trapping Flowers between the two vehicles. The force of the collision caused the Altima to spin into the path of the Rogue.

Emergency responders took Flowers, the pedestrian, to SSM Health St. Louis University Hospital with serious injuries.

Abt, the driver of the Rogue, was transported to Mercy Hospital South alongside two occupants of the Altima, identified as 24-year-old Harrison Moen and 27-year-old Hannah Moen. Abt’s injuries were described as moderate, while the Moens’ were described as minor.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
