Teen driver suffers minor injuries after falling asleep at wheel

PERRY CO., MO – An 18-year-old driver was lucky to escape with only minor injuries after falling asleep at the wheel and running off the I-55 roadway late last night.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the woman was traveling southbound near milepost 120.4 when she nodded off and lost control of the vehicle, which left the right side of the roadway. The woman woke up and overcorrected, causing it to run across the road, exit the left side of the roadway, and strike a cable barrier.

She was transported by EMS to Perry County Memorial Hospital, where she was treated for minor injuries.
