Sullivan – Arrest Following DUI Crash

A motorist suspected of DUI was arrested following an accident in Sullivan Friday evening.

At 6:36 p.m., 59-year-old Benjamin E. Hansel of Sullivan was driving his 2008 Chrysler Town and Country south on Highway 185 when a 2016 Ford Focus ran a red light at the Highway A intersection. The collision resulted in heavy damage to both vehicles, though Hansel was not seriously hurt. 19-year-old Jaclyn E. Pelton of Cedar Hill, a passenger in the Ford, sustained serious injuries and was immediately taken to Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital for treatment. Authorities did not identify the driver of the car but reported transporting the man to the hospital. He was arrested several hours later for suspected DUI. Officials are still investigating the incident.

As this incident highlights, negligent behavior, DUI in particular, can cause serious injuries. Needless to say, these reckless individuals have to be apprehended as soon as possible. Under appropriate circumstances, these suspects can face charges and claims filed by the state and those they have injured.
