St. Clair man injured after experiencing medical emergency behind the wheel

FRANKLIN COUNTY, MO – A man from St. Clair was transported to the hospital after a medical emergency caused led to a head-on collision in Franklin County Monday.

According to the official crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred on Highway M just north of St. Louis Rock Road shortly before 11:00 a.m.

Police say the incident happened when 85-year-old Elmer Downey had a medical emergency behind the wheel of his 2005 Ford F-150 and crossed the center line. Downey then collided head-on with Clinton Singleton’s 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix.

Downey was transported to Mercy Hospital to be treated for minor injuries sustained in the crash. The other driver was not injured in the collision.
