Shelbyville man sustains serious injuries in single-vehicle crash

SHELBY COUNTY, MO – A 21-year-old Shelbyville man was seriously injured in a single-vehicle accident on State Highway U early Saturday morning.

Police report Nicholas R. Vonthun was traveling east on State Highway U in a 1999 Buick Century when he traveled off the right side of the road. The Buick overturned three miles southwest of Shelbyville around 3 a.m.

It is unclear why Vonthun traveled off the road.

Vonthun was transported to Blessing Hospital. He was not wearing a seat belt.

The Buick was totaled.
