FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
May 3, 2024 (ST. LOUIS, MO) J&J has come to the table and offered a $6.475 billion settlement proposal to resolve all talcum powder claims in a prepackaged bankruptcy, pending approval in a vote by talcum powder claimants that will take place from June 3rd to July 26th, 2024.
If the proposed plan gets at least 75% of claimants voting in favor of it, J&J will file its plan with the bankruptcy court and ask for judicial approval. From there, current claims would be administered, and injured parties would be paid according to a fixed grid. A portion of the amount will be reserved for those who may develop cancer in the future. With interest, the trust is projected to disburse $11 billion over time.

In the decade since talc litigation began, J&J’s own records and a Reuters investigation revealed that not only did J&J know of the dangers, but they also made considerable efforts to hide talc risks from unsuspecting consumers.
With pressure from these lawsuits, J&J removed talcum powder from its baby powder worldwide in 2023, which will save countless lives in the decades ahead.
