Monday, February 10, 2020 - Pedestal sump pumps sold under brand names Utilitech, Do It, and Star Water Systems have been recalled due to a potential fire hazard. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says it received reports that six pumps, manufactured by Junhe Pumps Holding Co., Ltd. of China and distributed by Star Water Systems of Kendalville, Indiana, have begun smoking while in use. No injuries have been reported.
About 33,000 now-recalled pumps were sold between June 2014 and December 2019 for about $100 in stores at Lowe's, Do It Best, Carter Lumber, Orscheln Farm & Home, Falder's, HEP Sales, Theisen's, Big R, MK Enterprises, Holmes Lumber, JFW Sales & Marketing, Schlemmer Hardware, and Elnes Marketing. They were also sold online at Amazon.com.
