New York state woman hurt in Phelps Co. crash after falling asleep at wheel

JEROME, MO (PHELPS COUNTY) – A woman from New York state was hurt in a car accident in Phelps County after falling asleep at the wheel early this morning, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The accident happened on eastbound Interstate 44 at the 173.2 mile marker in Jerome just after 4 a.m. when 26-year-old Tyshawnna D. Bice, of Williamsville, New York, fells asleep while driving a 2013 Kia Sportage.

The vehicle ran off the right side of the highway, then collided with a tree, causing extensive damage to the car.

Bice was taken to the hospital in Rolla with moderate injuries. She was wearing a seatbelt when the accident occurred.

No other victims were reported as hurt in the collision.
