HAZELWOOD, MO – A motorcyclist was killed in an accident caused by hitting a pothole on I-270 early this morning, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The crash happened on eastbound I-270, east of Lindbergh Boulevard, at 1:25 a.m., when the driver of a 2020 Harley-Davidson Road Glide, 49-year-old St. Louis resident Robin E. Foster, struck a pothole.

Foster crashed into the left side of a 2020 Freightliner MS truck being driven by 67-year-old Johnny R. Schmieg, from Fairview Heights, Illinois. Foster fell off her motorcycle, which then collided with another motorcycle, a 2017 Harley-Davidson Road Glide Special being operated by 55-year-old St. Louis man Tyrone Chappel. Chappel then fell off his motorcycle.

Foster, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to the hospital, and at 2:19 a.m., she was pronounced dead.

Chappel and Schmieg were not injured in the collision.
