Man injured after driving off road to avoid collision on HWY 100

FRANKLIN COUNTY, MO – A man was injured after skidding off the road to avoid a wrong-way driver on Highway 100 Tuesday morning, the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Chris Smiley, 48, was traveling west of Decker Road in a 2001 Dodge 1500 when a wrong-way driver approached him. In order to avoid colliding with the vehicle, Smiley slammed down on his brakes, which caused his vehicle to skid.

The Dodge slid into a utility pole moderately injuring Smiley. Emergency responers took him to SSM Health St. Clare Hospital.
