Man hit by stolen car

CEDAR HILL, MO – A man is hospitalized after being hit by a stolen car Wednesday at 8:40 p.m. at a gas station near Highway 30 and Local Hillsboro Road, according to KMOV4.

Joseph Bates, 30, was inside a gas station at Highway 30 and Local Hillsboro Road when two people drove up in a stolen Dodge Dart. One of the Dart’s occupants exited the vehicle and then got into Bates’s Saturn Aura, which still had the keys inside.

The Missouri Highway Patrol reports that Bates came out of the gas station to find the car theft in progress, then ran after his vehicle as it drove away. He was hit by one of the stolen vehicles, although it remains unclear which one.

Later one of the stolen cars was spotted on Highway 30 at Route M. Police chased the stolen vehicles until the Dodge crashed, allowing the Saturn Aura to getaway. The driver of the Dodge fled on foot, but was later caught.
