A highway police chase in Joplin Sunday afternoon results in a fatality.
At approximately 2:00 p.m., a Lexus SUV crashed and rolled over on I-44 East, just past Exit 6 (South Main Street). According to authorities, 23-year-old Adam Whittington of Joplin was being pursued by officers when he ran off the highway in an attempt to avoid spike strips. This forced the SUV to crash into an embankment and overturn. Whittington was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials are investigating the incident and will release more info when appropriate.
