Florida man, 76, hurt in Ste. Genevieve Co. car crash

BLOOMSDALE, MO (STE. GENEVIEVE COUNTY) – A 76-year-old man from Florida was hurt Thursday morning in a car accident on Interstate 55 in Ste. Genevieve County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The collision happened at 8:40 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the interstate, near the 160.4 milepost.

A 2000 Mitsubishi Outlander, driven by 76-year-old Robert A. Kirchner, of St. Augustine, Florida, was stopped in the passing lane of the roadway when it was hit by a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier. The Cavalier, operated by 23-year-old Alexis N. McAbee, of De Soto, then drove into the median.

Kirchner was taken to Mercy Hospital Jefferson for the treatment of mild injuries.

Both drivers were wearing a seatbelt in the crash.

The Cavalier was totaled, and the Outlander received moderate damage, according to the report.
