PONTOON BEACH, IL – A trucking company and driver are facing a lawsuit after a St. Louis motorcyclist died last year in a crash last year in the Metro East area, according to KMOV.
The wrongful death lawsuit has been filed by the victim’s parents against the St. Louis Trucking Company Express Towing and trucker Spencer Johnston. The suit claims that the company disregarded driving hour limitations and states that the crash in question was reportedly the company’s fourth in less than a year.
The lawsuit also claims that Johnston made false statements about what happened during the accident.
The accident happened on Route 111 on October 16 of last year at around 2:30 a.m. as victim George Beck was riding a motorcycle home from work.
Beck was struck by the semi-truck after Johnston made a U-turn, and though he survived the initial impact, he was ultimately killed after being dragged for over 100 feet by the truck.
The wrongful death suit aims to prevent such accidents from occurring to other families, according to a statement made by one of the family’s attorneys.
