Driver fatally collides with multiple vehicles on I-44

FENTON, MO – A man died after driving the wrong way on I-44 near Maritz Overpass St and colliding with multiple vehicles Monday, Fox 2 Now reports.

Michael Branlett was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee without a seatbelt while going east in the westbound lanes of I-44.

A semi-truck attempted to avoid colliding with the Jeep by swerving right. Despite their efforts, Branlett struck the front left corner of the vehicle.

Branlett then went off the road, struck a barrier, and returned to the roadway where another semi-truck and a Lexus struck it.

First responders were called to the scene around 9:55 p.m. They pronounced Branlett dead and transported two occupants from the Lexus to the hospital with minor injuries.
