Crash shuts down I-64 WB for hours near Weldon Spring

ST. CHARLES COUNTY, MO — A vehicle crash early Sunday morning completely closed Interstate 64 westbound for almost five hours near Weldon Spring, according to MoDOT STL Traffic.

The incident occurred in the westbound lanes of I-64 west of Research Park Circle and was first reported by MoDOT at 2:04 a.m.

Motorists in the area were initially told to expect standstill traffic on the impacted stretch of highway before three lanes were reported closed.

MoDOT projected the scene would clear just before 3:00 a.m.

At 2:22 a.m., motorists were instructed to take another route altogether as all westbound lanes on I-64 became closed.

Shortly before 7:00 a.m., only two left lanes were reported closed, suggesting the other lanes had since reopened. The estimated clearance time was also postponed to 7:15 a.m., suggesting a significant crash.

No other details have been reported on the vehicles involved or any injuries sustained.
