“Suspicious” apartment fire kills boy

ALTON, IL – Fox 2 Now reports that what officials are calling a “suspicious” apartment fire near Mitchell St and Belle St killed a five-year-old boy Monday night.

The child’s mother and her boyfriend were in the apartment when the fire started around 7:20 p.m. Firefighters were unable to get upstairs in time to rescue the boy due to the smoke and fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Illinois State Fire Marshall.
