Minor injured after driver falls asleep at the wheel on I-44

FRANKLIN COUNTY, MO – MSHP reports that a four-year-old boy was hurt when a driver fell asleep and struck the rear of another vehicle on I-44 at the 257 mile marker Sunday.

Michael W. Kirchwehm, 18, was driving a Buick Encore west on the exit ramp when he collided with the rear of a Mazda 3 driven by Zachary A. Collins, 28, around 6:18 p.m.

Kirchwehm’s passenger, a four-year-old boy, was taken by Meramec Ambulance to Mercy Hospital. Nobody else was harmed in the incident.
