PEVELY, MO (JEFFERSON COUNTY) – A man from Barnhart died last night as the result of a wrong-way collision on Interstate 55, according to a crash report published by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The accident happened at 11:34 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-55 near the 179.8 milepost in Pevely, located in Jefferson County.
A 2016 Jeep Renegade operated by 27-year-old Brandon E. Kile of Parkville was headed southbound in the northbound lanes of the interstate. The Jeep collided head-on with a 2006 Toyota Solara driven by Barnhart man Shane L. Bird, 41. Bird was not wearing a seatbelt when the accident happened.
Bird was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at 11:58 p.m. Kile was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.
Both vehicles were totaled in the collision.
