Wylie’s family ties to the St. Louis legal community trace back to 1866 when his great-great-grandfather, Isaac Stephen Coe, began practicing as a trial lawyer in the Old Courthouse in downtown St. Louis.
At OnderLaw, Wylie primarily handles pharmaceutical and medical device cases, general product liability matters, auto and trucking accidents, and construction and premises liability cases, often involving catastrophic injury or wrongful death.
Wylie was trial counsel in the matters of Jacqueline Fox v. Johnson & Johnson, Gloria Ristesund v. Johnson & Johnson, Deborah Giannechini v. Johnson & Johnson, and Lois Slemp v. Johnson & Johnson. Each jury found Johnson & Johnson liable for the role its talc-based body powder products played in causing ovarian cancer, collectively awarding over $310,000,000 in actual and punitive damages. These were the first verdicts of their kind against Johnson & Johnson involving their talc products.
These four cases were recognized by Missouri Lawyers Weekly as the three largest verdicts of 2016 and the second largest of 2017 in the State of Missouri. In 2017, Wylie and his team also had one of the Top 50 Verdicts in the United States.
Wylie has tried multiple cases to verdict and has briefed, argued, and won appeals in both state and federal court. In addition to trial verdicts, Wylie has obtained numerous six- and seven-figure settlements on behalf of his clients.
In 2016, Wylie was a finalist for the American Association of Justice’s National Trial Lawyer of the Year. He has been recognized as a St. Louis Super Lawyers Rising Star each year from 2013 to present, a distinction limited to 2.5% of the practicing attorneys in Missouri under 40 years of age. He has been an invited speaker by American Bar Association, the American Association of Justice, the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, and HarrisMartin Publishing, making presentations on various aspects of talcum powder litigation, as well as on principles of personal jurisdiction in the wake of the United States Supreme Court’s decision in Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. v. Superior Court of California. Wylie is also a former vice chair of the American Bar Association’s section on Toxic Tort & Environmental Law.
Before joining OnderLaw, Wylie was a partner at a large law firm in the City of St. Louis specializing in product liability work. He was primarily involved in cases wherein damages in excess of eight figures were at issue.
Wylie earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Illinois in 2002. He graduated magna cum laude, ranking 5th in class, from Southern Illinois University School of Law in 2005. Wylie is admitted to practice law in Missouri, Illinois, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois, and the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.
