Matt O’Grady

Bad Faith Insurance Claims and Personal Injury Attorney

In practice since 1998, Matt now focuses primarily on disputes, claims, and litigation of bad faith insurance and personal injury litigation. Matt has also drawn upon many years of experience to blend his practice to include handling and trial of cases involving consumer protection litigation under Missouri’s Merchandising Practices Act, as well as fiduciary claims and business disputes.

Throughout his career, Matt has been routinely involved in the handling, trial, or settlement of significant cases involving six- and seven-figure recoveries for his clients. In 2016, Matt was lead trial counsel and appeared before the Missouri Supreme Court in Hunter v. Moore, involving insurance bad faith claims, and won the appeal in that case in a 7 – 0 opinion.

Matt has family roots in St. Louis, where he attended Washington University and graduated with honors (AB 93) and earned his law degree (JD 98). Following law school, he initially practiced for two years with Missouri’s largest insurance defense law firm, which provided him with experience and unique insight into the mechanics of handling proper and good faith insurance claims.

After a few years at a Clayton law firm expanding his concentration to include business, consumer, commercial, and fiduciary litigation, Matt founded a law firm with two partners in downtown St. Louis and continued his civil trial practice in those areas for over a decade before joining OnderLaw. Among other notable cases, between 2008 and 2016, Matt was the lead lawyer in more than half a dozen insurance bad faith cases in Missouri, all resulting in confidential settlements.

Matt was nominated to Missouri Super Lawyers in 2016, 2017, and 2018 and continues to be recognized by his peers as an accomplished and skilled trial attorney. He has appeared in Missouri Lawyers’ Weekly Verdicts & Settlements numerous times for winning results obtained by verdict and settlement. In 2015, Matt was recognized in Missouri Lawyers’ Awards 2015 in the category for securing the largest reported plaintiff verdicts/judgments that year, ranking third in the state of Missouri at $11.2 million.

Matt is a member of the Missouri and Illinois Bar and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri, and a member of the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys, American Association for Justice, and the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis.

In 2017, he was nominated as a member of the Insurance Legislative Committee for the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys, serving a term through 2018. In 2019, he was nominated for and serves on the Board of Governors for the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys.
