55-year-old woman sustains serious injuries in Franklin County crash

UNION, MO – A 55-year-old female passenger sustained serious injuries after the vehicle she was in traveled off of Missouri 47 and struck a tree on Sunday night.

Thomas C. Smith, 66, was traveling southbound on Missouri 47 when his 2017 Chevrolet Sonic traveled off the left side of the road, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol. The Chevrolet hit an embankment and tree north of College Road around 7 p.m.

Toni A. Smith, a passenger in the Chevrolet, was transported to Mercy Hospital Washington.

Both Cedar Hill residents were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.

The Chevrolet sustained extensive damages.

It is unclear why Smith traveled off the highway.
