48-year-old driver injured in Franklin County hit-and-run crash

ST. CLAIR, MO – A 48-year-old male driver was injured in a hit-and-run crash on Highway K on Saturday afternoon.

Police report Brian A. Chitwood, of St. Clair, was traveling southbound on Highway K near Whispering Oaks Drive when a northbound unknown vehicle traveled into his lane and hit his 2014 Ford Econoline van head-on. The other vehicle fled the scene after hitting the Ford around 3:20 p.m.

Chitwood was transported to Mercy Hospital Washington for minor injuries. Two occupants in the Ford, 43-year-old Angela M. Chitwood and 19-year-old Sierra M. Chitwood, were not injured in the crash. All three were wearing their seat belts.

The Ford sustained moderate damages in the crash.

It is unclear why the unknown vehicle traveled into oncoming traffic.
