4-year-old and woman dead, two teens injured in dramatic N St. Louis collision

ST. LOUIS, MO – A 4-year-old boy and a 25-year-old woman died, and two teenagers were severely injured, in a two-vehicle crash on Halls Ferry Road in north St. Louis Thursday night.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident happened at 9:15 p.m., as a 2015 Ford Focus driven by 25-year-old Jireh A. Hill, of Jennings, was turning onto Cozens Avenue from Halls Ferry Road.

A 2015 Dodge Caravan, operated by 17-year-old Demarqize D. Smith, of St. Louis, was traveling at a high speed when the Focus pulled into its path. The front of the Caravan collided with the side of the Focus, hopped the curb, and ran off the side of the road.

The Focus also collided with a curb, ejecting a 4-year-old boy from Jennings from the vehicle. The car rolled over an unspecified number of times, ran off the side of the road, and ultimately crashed into a pole and a sign before coming to rest.

The 4-year-old was declared dead at the scene at 9:34 p.m., and Hill died at the site of the crash at 9:35 p.m. She had been wearing a seatbelt.

Smith and a passenger in the Caravan, 18-year-old Shaniya M. Smith, of St. Louis, were taken to St. Louis Children’s Hospital for the treatment of serious injuries. They were not reported as wearing a safety device when the accident occurred.

Both vehicles were totaled in the crash.
