4 people injured in speed-related crash on I-270 in Sunset Hills

SUNSET HILLS, MO – Four people were injured, three of them seriously so, in a rollover crash on I-270 in the Sunset Hills area yesterday evening, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The crash happened on northbound I-270, north of Highway 30 at 6:25 p.m., when the driver of a 2016 Cadillac ATS, 22-year-old Joseph J. Polcaro, of Chesterfield, was allegedly driving over the posted speed limit and also failed to maintain a single lane. He then collided with a 2002 Honda Odyssey being driven by 35-year-old Fenton man Gabriel C. Escobar.

The impact sent both vehicles off the side of the road. The Cadillac crashed into a rock bluff, and the Honda collided with a guardrail and then flipped over.

Escobar and his two passengers, 36-year-old Gloria Perez and 18-year-old Maria L. Flores Escobar, both of Fenton, suffered serious injuries in the crash and were taken to Mercy St. Louis for treatment.

Polcaro was taken to the same hospital for the treatment of minor injuries.

All but Flores Escobar were wearing their seatbelt when the accident occurred.

Both vehicles were totaled in the crash.
