39-year-old wrong-way driver seriously injured in I-270 ramp crash

BRIDGETON, MO – A 39-year-old driver was injured when he collided with a semi after driving the wrong direction on a ramp to northbound I-270 early Tuesday morning.

Jeffery T. Pearson, 39, was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes traveling from I-70 onto the ramp to northbound I-270 when he hit a semi head-on around 2:45 a.m., according to Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Pearson was transported to Mercy Hospital St. Louis for serious injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The truck driver, 34-year-old Kevin S. Lay, was not injured in the crash. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Both vehicles were totaled.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
