34-year-old pedestrian injured after being hit in Murphy

MURPHY, MO – A 34-year-old High Ridge pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by a 2021 Nissan Sentra on New Sugar Creek Road on Wednesday morning.

Missouri State Highway Patrol reports James W. Hoekstra, 50, was traveling south on New Sugar Creek Road. Jeremiah J. Smith was standing in the southbound lanes of the road for unknown reasons. Hoekstra attempted to brake but was unable to stop in time. He hit Smith south of Ridge Road around 5:05 a.m.

Smith was transported to Mercy Hospital South. His current condition is unknown.

Hoekstra was not injured in the crash and was wearing a seat belt.

The Nissan sustained moderate damages.
