34-year-old driver falls asleep behind the wheel, hits semi on I-44

HIGH RIDGE, MO – A 34-year-old driver fell asleep behind the wheel and struck a semi truck on eastbound I-44 in the early morning hours on Thursday.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on I-44 at the Antire Road exit (269) at around 1:20 a.m.

John M. Busch, 34, was driving eastbound on I-44 in a 2002 Chevrolet Impala when he fell asleep and hit the rear of a semi truck, driven by 67-year-old Laverne R. Wortz.

Busch was transported to Mercy Hospital St. Louis with moderate injuries. He was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

The Chevrolet was totaled in the crash. The semi was not seriously damaged.
