ROLLA, MO (PHELPS COUNTY) – Three people were injured, one of them seriously so, in a collision on Highway 63 south of Rolla yesterday afternoon, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The crash happened on Highway 63, about a mile south of Vida, at 1:55 p.m. The driver of a 2016 Kia Optima, identified as 46-year-old Rolla woman Kimberly R. Salter, failed to yield to a 2014 Kia Sorrento making a left turn.

The Sorrento then collided with the Optima, and then a 2007 Kia Sportage driven by Daisy M. Slagel, a 20-year-old Macon resident, crashed into the back of the Sorrento.

Salter was airlifted to the hospital in Columbia with severe injuries.

The driver of the Sorrento, 78-year-old Judy N. Watson, of Houston, Missouri, sustained moderate injuries in the crash.

A passenger in the Sorrento, 59-year-old Teresa L. Gaston, of Bucyrus, suffered minor injuries in the crash. Both she and Watson were taken to the hospital in Rolla for treatment.
