3 injured after car flips over I-44 median and causes multi-vehicle crash

DOOLITTLE, MO (PHELPS COUNTY) – Three people were injured, two of them seriously, during a multi-vehicle collision in Phelps County this afternoon, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred west of Doolittle on westbound I-44 (Route 66), near mile marker 176, at about 3 p.m.

20-year-old St. Robert man Draydon N. Raef, operating a 1995 Honda Civic, went off the left side of the interstate, and went airborne over the median. The Civic landed in the lanes of oncoming westbound traffic, then rolled over.

The Civic collided with a 2014 Toyota Camry operated by New Mexico woman Christina D. Schwenn. The Camry then crashed into a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 72-year-old Stephen D. Presley, of Springfield.

Schwenn was airlifted to the hospital in Columbia with severe injuries. Raef also suffered serious wounds and was taken to Phelps Health for treatment.

A passenger in the Camry, 56-year-old Daniel J. Martin, of Wayne, Oklahoma, was taken to Phelps Health with minor wounds.

Presley was not reported as injured.

All drivers and victims were reportedly wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The Camry and Civic were declared total losses, while the Silverado was able to be driven from the scene with only minor damage.
